A Fenland village has won its fight to have a speed limit extended.

Parson Drove Parish Council has been calling for the 40mph speed limit on Main Road to be extended after receiving complaints from residents.

Cambridgeshire County Council’s Highways department has now announced plans to increase the speed limit beyond the junction with High Side and the whole length of Elbow Lane.

Parish Council chairman Gavin Booth is delighted with the news.

He said: “We had a request from residents at that end of the village due to speeding traffic and accidents near the entrance to Elbow Lane.

“Hopefully this will improve road safety. People don’t realise how sharp the bend is near Elbow Lane.”

l The county council has also announced it will be closing Twentyfoot Road in March until Friday, May 29, to carry out road surfacing work.

The road will be closed between 8am and 4pm and a signed diversion route will be put in place.

A council statement added: “Disruption to pedestrians and traffic will be kept to a minimum by maintaining access to both private and business addresses, where possible.”
