Pedestrian killed on the A47 at Wisbech

A pedestrian was killed on the A47 at Wisbech on Friday night.

Police are appealing for witnesses after the woman was struck by a Volkswagen Touran close to the junction with the B198 Cromwell Road at 9.15pm. The car was travelling east towards Lynn.

The woman was walking with another pedestrian when the incident happened.

Police have not released any further information on the woman.

The road was closed for four-and-a-half hours.

This latest death comes almost a month after pedestrians Tadas Zaleskas, 26, and Nonita Karajevaite, 24, of Church Road, Emneth, died on the A47 at Terrington St John.

The couple, who were walking barefoot along the road, were both pronounced dead on the Lynn-bound dual carriageway close to Mill Road Bridge after being struck by a silver Kia car at 2.15pm on July 20.

Tadas, a factory worker, is believed to have pushed Nonita, a part-time beautician and factory worker, into oncoming traffic. The couple had earlier visited Worzals Farm Shop in Walpole Highway and asked for the police to be called.
