Petition against opening hours

A PETITION has been lodged with Fenland council by angry residents opposed to plans to keep the new Wetherspoons pub in March open “excessively late”.

J D Wetherspoons has applied for a licence for the former Hippodrome Cinema in Dartford Road, which they are currently converting into a pub, which would allow it to stay open until 2.30am every Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The application, which is due to be discussed by the council’s licensing committee on Friday, also seeks to extend the opening hours for special occasions such as St Patrick’s Day and Christmas Eve.

But residents living in neighbouring Darthill Road, Pierson Court and Princes Walk are worried the pub will lead to noise and anti-social behaviour late at night..

Insp Rob Hill, March Sector Commander, has also raised concerns about the “impact on public safety and the anti-social behaviour/crime rates within the area.”
