Petition started urging Uber to cover the Fenland area
A petition calling for Fenland to be better connected is urging global taxi firm Uber to come to the district.
Resident Alan Smith is urging the worldwide ride-hailing service to expand to the rural area, which is home to more than 100,000 residents.
Mr Smith has said there is a lack of “reliable, convenient and affordable” transport options in the area, and said that Uber’s absence from Fenland has a significant impact on people’s daily commute.
Uber also doesn’t have cars operating in neighbouring areas such as West Norfolk and South Lincolnshire.
“Residents without personal vehicles, such as students, senior citizens, and disabled individuals, face challenges in accessing educational institutions, healthcare facilities, employment opportunities, and social events,” he said.
“By bringing Uber to Fenland, we not only introduce a modern solution but also potentially stimulate the local economy.
“Many residents could benefit from the flexible employment opportunity that being an Uber driver offers, enabling them to generate additional income on their own schedules.”
The Change.org petition is urging Uber to consider Fenland as its next expansion.
Uber has been approached for comment.
