WEDNESDAY, March 9 is No Smoking Day across the country and a March optician is giving free eye tests today (Wednesday) to promote good eye care.
Smoking is known to be a risk factor for certain eye conditions, such as macular degeneration, and regular eye examinations can detect if you have this.
Kavi Kotecha, from Selby and Taylor Opticians, is urging people to have regular eye examinations, not only to update their prescription but to have a full health check of their eyes.
No Smoking Day aims to help people who would like to quit smoking. New statistics issued by Office for National Statistics show nearly two-thirds of smokers in the UK would like to quit and with the right NHS support, people are four times more likely to succeed.
The No Smoking Day campaign has created an online hub www.WeQuit.co.uk where people wishing to quit can find out about help available, get tips and advice on how to succeed as well as chat with other smokers wishing to quit and ex-smokers who understand what they are facing.
Events will be held across the UK organised by a variety of health professionals and stop smoking services to help reach the smokers who wish to quit.
In addition to offering free eye tests today, Selby & Taylor are also offering an Ultimate Goddess makeover and photoshoot for two. You also get to choose one favourite image to receive as an 8x6 print to keep.
To be in with a chance of winning, answer the following question: Name an eye condition that smoking can increase the risk of.
Put your answer on the back of a sealed envelope or postcard, along with your name, address and a daytime telephone number, and send it - marked SELBY & TAYLOR COMPETITION - to the Citizen at 11 Union Street, Wisbech or 26 Market Place, March.
Entries can also be emailed to firstname.lastname@example.org
Closing date is 10am on Tuesday, March 15.
