Residents are calling for better lighting in a Wisbech park after a man was found hanging on Saturday morning.

There is just one light in Tillery Field – otherwise known as the doggy park – which residents say is not enough to make them feel safe.

One resident, who did not want to be named, said: “You can’t see the place where the man died from the road or even from the other side of the park. It’s too dark.”

The residents fought to get a camera installed in the park after problems with drinkers. But the lack of lighting is now throwing up other problems.

A Fenland Council spokesperson said: “In response to concerns previously expressed by local residents, we have made significant improvements to the park in recent years, including installing an infrared CCTV camera. We continue to work with the police and others to monitor the area but we have no plans to introduce more lighting there.”

Police confirmed they were called to a sudden death in the park at 7.30am on Saturday. The death is not being treated as suspicious and has been passed to the coroner.
