An appeal has gone out to find a new home for a greyhound who lost her owner before Christmas.

Wisbech Retired Greyhound Trust is putting out a plea after not receiving one call for 11-year-old Betty in the weeks she has been in care.

The former racer lost not only her Lincolnshire home but also her beloved owner during the festive period.

Betty was brought into the trust’s kennels but is now in foster care after finding it difficult, but has settled in well.

Trust chairman Barbara Townsend has put out an appeal to find a forever home for this lovely dog.

She said: “It is heartbreaking that we have not had one call for her.

“Betty is an older dog but she is lovely and we would really love to find her a new home.

“People should not be put off by her age as Betty is in very good health.

“She has recently had a full health check-up and was found to be very healthy.

“Greyhounds can live up to 15 years-old.”

The trust is hoping to find Betty a quiet home with no cats and would suit an older couple.

Mrs Townsend added: “She is a pretty, quiet, sensitive little girl who is easily managed in a home. She is clean, makes no mess or damage and can be left.

“She is not bothered by household noises nor traffic, fireworks, shooting, but she is very worried if she hears anyone shouting.

“She is happy with two 20-minute walks a day. She walks easily on the lead and lies down on car journeys. She likes people to stroke her and give treats and she loves to be groomed.

“She is nervous of other dogs and will avoid them but is fine with the two she lived with in foster care.

“We also have a kennel full of black dogs that desperately need homes, too.” For more information call Barbara on 01945 430311 or 07717 217347 or visit www.wisbech.retiredgreyhounds.co.uk
