Police appeal after assaults

POLICE are appealing for witnesses after two separate assaults on females in Wisbech.

Detectives are investigating a serious sexual assault on a woman in the area of Wisbech Park just before before 2am on Saturday August 13.

The victim was walking through the park in Lynn Road when she was attacked. A man grabbed her before sexually assaulting her. The victim was shocked and distressed by what happened.

Police carried out searches of the scene.

Detective Inspector Lorraine Parker said: “This was a traumatic experience for the victim and I am keen to find out who carried out this attack as soon as possible.

“I would appeal to anyone who was in the area to consider whether or not they saw anything suspicious in the early hours of Saturday. We are particularly interested in anyone who was there between 1.45am and 2am. Any information could be very important to this inquiry.”

In a separate incident the day before, Friday August 12, a 13 year-old girl was assaulted by a teenage boy.

The girl was with a group of friends in The Crescent, close to Ghost Passage, when they were approached by a youth on a bicycle who assaulted her before riding off.

He is described as white, about 17, with mousey hair and riding a blue mountain bike. He was wearing a white t-shirt, black jeans and a black zip-up jacket and carrying an Adidas bag.

The incident happened between 2.35pm and 3.10pm.

PC Becky Welberry said: “The area was quite busy at the time and I would appeal to anyone who saw what happened to contact police.”
