An investigation has been launched after a statue of an angel was stolen from a grave in a village cemetery.

The white stone statue, which is around three and a half feet tall, was stolen from the site in Outwell, sometime between 10am on Monday, August 3 and 5pm on Wednesday.

PC Debbie Mayes, of Downham police, said: “This is a despicable crime and I would urge anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area to contact us.

“The statue is very heavy and would have probably have needed at least two people to move it. There is a possibility they would have also used a car to take the statue away.”

Anyone with information about the theft is asked to contact PC Mayes, via the non-emergency 101 number.
