“Swap fags for swag” was the message to shoppers at Tesco in March this week.
Councillor Ralph Butcher, Fenland District Council’s portfolio holder for health, checked in for a carbon monoxide breath test when he visited a special stall set up to mark No Smoking Day on March 13.
The test result? “Very good,” said Sheila Collins, from NHS Cambridgeshire’s Camquit stop smoking service.
Cllr Butcher gave up smoking more than a decade ago. Urging others to kick the habit, he said: “Not only is smoking one of the biggest causes of ill health, it is also very expensive. So giving up will make you both healthier and wealthier. I know that it can be hard to quit but there is help available.”
