Wisbech Rose Fair Parade has been cancelled with the recent fire on the town's Market Place being blamed for the decision.

In a post on Facebook organisers, Wisbech Round Table, announced its decision to call off the popular parade, which was due to take place this summer.

It would be the first parade in two years following the pandemic and would have gone ahead despite a decision earlier in the year by St Peter's Church to end its hugely successful flower festival that went hand in hand with the parade.

In the announcement posted to Facebook yesterday (Friday) afternoon Ross Stannard Wisbech Round Table's vice-chair said: "Unfortunately due to the recent fire in Wisbech Market place blocking the parade route with no confirmed date for the scaffolding coming down and very limited entries for the parade it is with regret that we have had to make the decision to cancel this years Rose Fair Parade.

"We would like to thank all our sponsors and entrants for their support. Keep your eyes peeled for information on a brand new event coming soon."
