UPWELL’S first Parish Produce Show which took place in Upwell Methodist Church Hall on Saturday was a resounding success.
It Attracted more than 160 entries in five different sections, and there was also a good turn-out from the public.
Participants, entering a total of 48 categories, appreciated the critical and professional interest taken by independent and unbiased volunteer judges who approached their tasks very seriously, in many instances having to make difficult choices between several entries, all of a similar very high standard.
First place winners in each category were presented with certificates, and second and third places were named.
The five section winners were each presented with a trophy and the ‘Best in Show’ winner received an impressive silver cup.
Thanks are due to everyone involved – participants, judges, the all-important ‘tea ladies,’ (and gentlemen).
As well as sponsors: Chris Robinson; Keith Harrison; Goldings Nursery; Brian Tweed and Claudia and Malcolm Starr, and everyone else who helped in any way.
Organisers, Helen Carver and Sylvie Short were pleased with their first effort to revive this aspect of Upwell village life.
The star prize, ‘Best in Show,’ was awarded to Ashley Inwood, who won by a couple of points.
Other category winners were: Vegetables and Fruit, Graham Carver; Crafts, Pauline Harrison; Flowers, Ashley Inwood; Cookery, Helen Carver; Children, Emily Russell.
