The Black Bear in Wisbech hosting concert to raise money for youngster in wheelchair and charity in memory of ‘well-loved’ community member

A pub event has been organised to raise money for a youngster in a wheelchair as well as a charity in memory of a “well-loved” member of the community.

The Black Bear in Wisbech is hosting a charity concert on Saturday afternoon as staff and visitors sing and dance the night away.

Staff at the pub are raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support in memory of Cheryl Barker, a Fenland woman who recently died.

A spokesperson for the pub said: “We have recently been touched by the deep sadness of losing a well-loved member of our community.

“With a heart as big as a house - she really cared about the Macmillan charity, and we would love to raise some money for that cause in her memory.”

The pub will also be raising funds for seven-year-old Alfie Thomson, from Emneth, who has been diagnosed with arthritis. He has become wheelchair-bound.

The spokesperson for the pub added: “All he would like is to be able to get in his garden and enjoy the outdoors once again on his new set of wheels.

“His garden is too steep for a wheelchair to get into. We really hope that raising money at this event will give him the chance to enjoy his garden and get him back to being outdoors, which he loves.”

The Black Bear will be hosting a concert of all different types of music, along with a fun day for all the family. From Motown to Reggae music, as well as face painting and killer pool, there is lots to do for all ages.

There is a great lineup of entertainers, including Maria May, singing a wide variety of golden oldies to modern pop.

Gerry Ryan, who is the Grandfather of Alfie and is the driving force behind the event, will also be performing.

He is a singer who performs songs from the 60s, 70s, 80s, Motown, Northern Soul, and more.

There will also be Ash Gower, resident Karaoke host and DJ at the venue. He will be singing a variety of Reggae and some classics across the decades.

Hayley Rudd will be entertaining children with her face painting skills.

The event will be compered by Syndicated Radio Show Broadcaster, Richard J Hannah.

The event will start at 2pm and will finish late. Children are welcome, and there will be food available and a barbecue.
