Pupils at Cromwell Community College in Chatteris enjoy trip to AstraZeneca Discovery Centre in Cambridge
Pupils from the Primary Phase at Cromwell Community College in Chatteris enjoyed a trip to AstraZeneca Discovery Centre in Cambridge.
The Year 5 children from the college, part of The Active Learning Trust, had a tour of the state-of-the-art research and development facility located in the heart of the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.
The children had a tour of the centre where they learnt about the medicine-making process and practised pipetting skills, giving them a hands-on experience of science.
They also met real scientists and explored some career paths in life sciences.
AstraZeneca describes itself as a catalyst for science-led innovation and sustainable growth across Cambridge, the UK and beyond.
Claire Macdonald, head teacher of Primary Phase at Cromwell Community College, added: “We would like to thank AstraZeneca for making this such a special visit for our Year 5 pupils. It was incredible to hear about the wonderful questions they had about the medicine-making process.
“At Cromwell Community College, we strive to help our pupils to become successful, respectful and confident learners and trips like this are very much a part of this.”
Amber Dickinson, the school’s Primary Phase science lead, who led the trip, added: “The children thoroughly enjoyed the trip to AstraZeneca’s Discovery Centre, and we were very proud of how well they represented our school.
“We hope that this trip will encourage many of them to consider taking up future careers in science and technology.”
