Big-hearted runners who competed in the ‘Race at your Place’ at Wisbech Grammar School have handed over a cheque for £1,345 to Cancer Research UK.

Race winner Mollie Allen (15), who completed the five-kilometre course in June in 19 minutes 14 seconds was joined by fellow participant Charlie Golding (16) to present the bumper cheque to the charity’s senior local fund-raising manager, Laura Holland, at a school assembly.

A total of 135 parents, pupils and teachers joined in the race and all the participants, who paid £10 to take part, were able to enjoy a hot dog barbecue and the music provided by the school’s steel band.

Organiser Geoff Howes is hoping to swell the number competing to 200 for next year’s race and he has set a target of raising £2,000 for the charity.
