THE organiser of Wisbech’s traditional Rose Fair float parade is urging individuals and organisations to enter this year’s parade.
The parade is organised by Wisbech Round Table and float officer Daniel Ball is determined to improve on last year, when only 16 participants took part.
The Peterborough Highland Pipe Band is back to lead the floats along with the Cambs Cadet Corps of Drums Band this year.
Also heading the parade will be the Rose Queen for 2012 and her attendants.
The usual search for a Rose Queen starts next month in the Fenland Citizen so look out for details nearer the time.
The theme for the parade is “The Olympics and Other Sporting Events” which gives a great scope for floats. Mr Balll explained already imaginative entries are Mario and Sonic at the Olympics, the Oxford and Cambridge Boat Race and Winter Olympics.
Lorries can be arranged for organisations who want to enter but don’t have transport and entry forms for floats are available from the Citizen reception at 11 Union Street in Wisbech.
Forms can also be obtained from Mr Ball on March 01354-602884 or at 42 High Street, March.
Mr Ball would like to see the parade up to 30 items including bands, dancers and floats.
Organisations who want to dress up and walk in the parade are also welcome. The closing date for entries is May 18.
Said Mr Ball: “I started this in December and I’m trying to get people interested but there still isn’t a huge uptake. We have got about 14 including two bands.”
Back in 2010, the parade had 28 participants.
“I would like to get it back to somewhere around that figure again,” said Mr Ball.
The parade is Saturday July 7 at 11am and 2pm.
