RAM-raiders fled empty handed after smashing into a Wisbech bank.
Five men wearing balaclavas used a JCB to break into HSBC in Cornhill, at 2.18am, today (Thursday). It is thought they were trying to steal an ATM but failed to rip the machine out of the building.
It is thought the offenders left in an Audi car.
The JCB and a 4x4 vehicle believed to have been used by the offenders have been seized by police.
Detective Inspector Alan Page, investigating, said: “I would appeal to anyone who was in the area and saw what happened to call police.
“We are keen to trace the Audi and want to hear from anyone who saw a vehicle driving away from Wisbech at about 2.30am.”
Anyone with any information should call DI Page on 101 or Crimestoppers, anonymously, on 0800-555-111.
