Ramblers take to the tracks

KEEN walkers, ramblers and those who just enjoy a stroll are being invited to take part in a conducted walk along the Old Railway Line footpath from Chatteris to Somersham next Saturday August 11.

The six mile walk will be led by Laura Osbourne, Community Projects Officer for Cambridgeshire Wildlife Trust, and Philip Clark, the Chairman of Somersham Friends Group.

The idea is to raise interest among local residents with the aim of creating a Friends Group for the Old Railway Line.

Somersham already has such a group in place and the walk will allow Chatteris residents to see the innovations Somersham have in place at their end of the footpath and to raise ideas for what could be achieved at the Chatteris end.

It is hoped Somersham Friends will take part in the walk and will be able to explain how they have achieved the improvements in Somersham.

The walk will begin at 9.30am at the Huntingdon Road entrance to the Old Railway Line in Chatteris and is expected to take about two and a half hours. It will terminate at Mary’s Tea Shop in Somersham where refreshments will be available.

Arrangements will need to be made for transporting walkers back from Somersham so anyone interested in joining the walk is being asked to contact either Ivan Cooper on 01354-695166, e-mail chatteriscouncil@btconnect.com, Philip Clark on 01223-715686, e-mail PhilipClark@cambridgeshire.gov.uk or James Carney, e-mail jamescarney.chatteris@btinternet.com
