DESPITE being threatened with closure, Manea Fire Station is currently recruiting on-call firefighters.
Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue said Manea is not the only one recruiting and a spokesperson said it is business as usual until a decision has been made on budget cuts.
Neil Newberry, Assistant Chief Fire Officer at Cambridgeshire Fire and Rescue Service said: “No decisions have yet been made on the future of Manea Fire Station, however the station will remain at risk if government budget cuts exceed the estimated £4.2 million, for which we have been planning.
“Unfortunately we will not find out the final figure until December. Of course, such a decision is subject to approval by the Fire Authority.
“However, even if the station is listed for closure, we will not need to make the savings until 2014 and so the station will remain open until then. Clearly we need to maintain sufficient on call firefighters at the station to provide cover until this time.”
