Road closed and houses lose power after car crashes into electricity pole and bursts into flames near Whittlesey

A road was closed for some time yesterday, and houses lost power supply after a car left the road and crashed into an electricity pole.

The driver escaped the incident on the notoriously bumpy B1040 Ramsey Road from Whittlesey to Pondersbridge, with only slight injuries, before his electric car burst into flames.

Cambridgeshire Fire & Rescue Service and the police were soon at the scene, along with UK Power Networks.

Recovery work was carried out so engineers could work to get the supply restored to 35 homes that lost power. Electricity returned to the homes around 4am.
