RSPCA appeal after swans shot in Wimblington
RSPCA inspectors are appealing for information after two swans were shot in the head in Wimblington.
Inspectors were called to a dyke off Horsemoor Road, on Saturday after the swans were found.
One was dead and the other wounded in the head. Luckily, the second swan’s wounds appeared to be superficial and he was otherwise healthy so was allowed to fly off.
It is thought they may have been shot with an air rifle on Friday night.
RSPCA inspector Richard Lythgoe said: “This was a horrible incident which resulted in the death of one bird and a second having a lucky escape.
“It appears to have been done in the interests of so’called ‘sport’ but was completely needless and cruel.”
