Ruddigore takes to the stage at Outwell
Upwell Gilbert and Sullivan Society are getting ready to take to the stage to perform Ruddigore this week.
The operetta starts tomorrow, with further performances on Friday and Saturday, at St Andrew’s Methodist Church, in Outwell, at 7.30pm.
Gilbert and Sullivan’s operetta Ruddigore is also known as “The Witch’s Curse”.
The three bad Baronets of Ruddigore were cursed by a witch while she was being burnt at the stake. They have to perform a bad deed every day for the rest of their lives or die in agony. The current baronet decides he doesn’t want to do this, so his ancestors step out of their portraits to haunt and attack him. This is one of the lesser known operettas but features some wonderful music and comedy.
Tickets available from Peter and Linda Calver 01945 773070 and cost £7 adults, £4 children.
The society is always looking for new members especially men. Anyone is welcome to go along and join in the singing with no previous experience necessary.
It performs a concert at Christmas and charity ones when requested. It will be rehearsing a variety of music shortly for the Upwell St Peter’s Church flower festival in June, which is where it practises on Tuesday nights. The website is www.upwellgands.weebly.com
