Young people in March have been saluted for their voluntary work in the community.

March Lions honour caring local youngsters for giving up their time to help others with their annual Young Leaders in Service Awards.

A special presentation was held on Friday and Lion Alexander Groome said: “What a fantastic start to the year – Friday was a very special day for March and its young people.

“Twelve picked up Young Leaders in Service awards which accredited their sheer will and determination to help in the local community.” The Lions’ Young Leaders in Service Awards scheme is designed to encourage young people aged between 12 and 18 to volunteer for challenging and rewarding voluntary work in their community.

Silver awards recognise 50 hours of community service and gold rewards 100 hours.

Most of Friday’s recipients were young people who help out at the YPM youth facility in March and Alexander added: “This shows that young people just want to help in every way they can to make other young people’s lives more enjoyable.”
