CHATTERIS is sparkling for Christmas following the annual lights switch-on on Saturday.
The residents of Chatteris and people from further afield packed the town centre for the popular annual event.
Chatteris Christmas Lights Committee chairman Chris Savill said there were so many people, he couldn’t see the road at all.
Seven-year-old Glebelands pupil Samuel Furness took to the stage in front of an estimated 3,000 people to turn on the Christmas lights with the help of Father Christmas and Mr Savill.
The Christmas lights are organised by a dedicated group of volunteers.
The switch-on is the committee’s biggest fundraiser and they took more then £1,000 in collections and a raffle.
The money raised, along with an envelope drop that goes out around October, will pay for next year’s display.
