Scam email warning

CITIZEN reader Michael Gibbs, of Walpole Highway, wants to warn people about an email scam circulating in the area.

Mr Gibbs received a message claiming to come from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in Washington that he had won $800,000 US dollars from a lottery company in America.

For the win to be forwarded, the email asks for $420 dollars to be paid for the transaction to an agent-in-charge via money transfer.

In view of what looks like a signature and FBI logos on the paperwork, Mr Gibbs said some people might think it is authentic and might be tempted to pay up.

After receiving the email he posted a message on Facebook and found at least 30 of his friends countrywide had received a similar email.

Mr Gibbs has reported the matter to the national scam line service.
