Upwell Academy gives Wisbech foodbank a boost with harvest festival donations
Upwell Academy celebrated this year’s harvest with a special assembly on Thursday (28).
Every year group from Reception to Year 6 attended the event, which was led by academy committee member Raine Tharrold, with children having carefully rehearsed a story, reading, or poem to perform to a large audience of Reception Class parents, staff, and their peers.
The reception children entertained the audience with a delightful performance of ‘I’m a Dingly Dangly Scarecrow’.
Harvest festivals are an annual tradition that in the UK, date back to Pagan times, and are rooted in thanks given for a successful or bountiful harvest.
This year the academy used its harvest festival as an opportunity to collect and donate food to the local Foodbank, in support of the fantastic work that they do to provide much-needed meals to those in need.
A school spokesperson said: “We are unbelievably grateful to you all for donating to the cause and Wisbech Foodbank has passed on thanks to the Friends of Upwell School Association, our children, and said this would go a long way to support local people in crisis.”
