Search is on for Fenland poet Laureate
It’s not too late to enter this year’s Fenland Poet Laureate competition.
If you’re inspired by the Fens, write a poem for Fenland. It’s free to enter and the winner will be crowned Fenland Poet Laureate 2015.
Winning the title of Fenland Poet Laureate is a great recognition of talent, as well as a fantastic opportunity to engage with your local community and develop your career as a poet.
The competition organisers are looking for poems that represent and relate to the theme ‘Fenland’.
First, second and third places will be awarded to three of the poets in both the adult (18+) category and the young (10-17) category. Certificates of achievement will be given to all shortlisted and commended entrants.
All shortlisted and commended poets will be invited to a special Fenland Poet Laureate Awards evening on Friday, March 27, at the Wisbech and Fenland Museum.
Deadline for entry is Friday, January 30. Your poem should be no longer than 40 lines, and typed on a single side of A4 paper.
Write your age in the top right-hand corner of the page (adults can just write ‘18+’) but do not write your name on your poem, as all poems will be judged anonymously.
Entrants must live, work, or study in the Fens. Only one poem per entrant, and this poem must be previously unpublished.
Send your poem, with a cover email with your name, email address, telephone number, address, age group entered (10-17, or 18+) and the title of the poem to: firstname.lastname@example.org
Alternatively, you can pick up an entry form from your local library or museum and post your entry to Wisbech and Fenland Museum, Museum Square, Wisbech, PE13 1ES. Remember to include a separate covering letter with your name, email address, telephone number, address, age group entered (10-17, or 18+) and the title of the poem.
Remember not to write your name on your poem.
