A Hunstanton family were woken during the early hours after a joy rider damaged their car.

Stephen and Zena Harford’s Renault Grand Phoenix was taken without their permission from a parking spot outside their home in Crescent Road, at around 4am on Monday.

During the incident, their car hit another Renault, which belongs to a neighbour.

The man was then seen to run off along an alleyway.

The couple’s daughter Aurora, 21, said the family was shocked.

She said: “We don’t expect this sort of thing to happen.

“We were woken by the dog barking, which it doesn’t normally do.

“It was our neighbour knocking on the door to let us know what was happening. Her car alarm had gone off.

“She had see the guy run off down an alley.

“The car is usable but we don’t understand why they took our car especially with two Jaguars parked across to the road.”

The Harford’s car was dented close to the front bumper as a result of the incident.

The family will be able claim on their car insurance but will have to pay the £200 excess.

The incident has been reported to the police, who are investigating.
