Shop for Benwick

Benwick is set to get a new village shop for the first time in over five years after Fenland planners granted permission for a store to be built in High Street.

Manea businessman Bharat Sisodiya applied for permission to demolish a former petrol station on the High Street site, adjoining the Five Alls pub, and to build a shop with two flats above it.

On Wednesday Fenland’s planning committee granted permission for the ambitious plans and now Mr Sisodiya, who owns and runs a Londis store with Post Office in Manea, is hoping the shop will be ready to open early in the new year.

He expects work to take about six or seven months and in the meantime he will be applying to incorporate a Post Office in the business.

“Benwick is a lovely village and it deserves to have a village store,” said Mr Sisodiya.
