ORGANISERS of a best dressed window competition in Wisbech town centre to mark St George’s Day were disappointed with the low turnout.

Only five shops took part, despite 54 letters being sent out by the Fenland branch of The Royal Society of St George.

The winning shop was Sue Ryder Care, with The British Heart Foundation being named as runner-up.

The cup and certificate were presented by branch chairman Steve Clark. The runner-up also received a certificate.

The other three shops that took part were the Salvation Army, Fully Booked and Julz of Norfolk Street.

In addition to judging the window competition, members of the group also spent Saturday in the town centre, many in costumes, handing out silk roses and leaflets to the public to promote the work they do.

A branch spokesperson said: “Hopefully next year other shops in the town will participate and make this special day a day to remember.

“Our sincere thanks to all those to took the time and effort to take part.”
