Speed watch in Long Sutton and everywhere is a waste of time, says letter writer
I must congratulate the last two speed watch volunteers at Long Sutton for their commitment and dedication.
However, just like across Cambridgeshire and other areas of the country, these speed watches end up a waste of time.
Everybody wants it to happen but no volunteers are forthcoming.
Not only that, just like a police camera van at the side of the road, the drivers slow down to pass it , and then stick their foot down after passing it. Then when the volunteers are not there, there is no deterrent so it’s a race track again.
To help the community you need traffic calming, vehicle-operated speed signs , rumble strips , road markings, reduced speed zones, chicanes and other physical warnings.
Most county councils offer funding grants for traffic calming if your town/parish council applies for them, but first you have to prepare your case and gain signatures on a petition.
