Wisbech Cricket and Hockey Club is looking for premises licence as part of its ‘Crockey Project’ which will see new pavilion built
Consultation is currently open on an application by Wisbech Town Cricket and Hockey Club for a premises licence.
The club, which is a longstanding tenant of the National Trust with a 60-year lease agreement, is looking for the new licence in readiness for the demolition of its existing club house.
The application before Fenland District Council as the licensing authority, explains the clubhouse supports the playing of cricket, hockey, and other leisure and social activities at the club’s site in Harecroft Road.
The club, which is working on its once-in-a-lifetime ‘Crockey Project’ launched in 2018 and has already seen the opening of a £400,000 Astro Turf pitch in June 2023, is preparing to demolish the existing clubhouse as part of the scheme.
The current clubhouse is licensed and the club is hoping Fenland District Council will grant a new licence for a temporary clubhouse while the new one is built.
In its application, the club explains the licence would not be needed once the new, slightly-larger than the current clubhouse is complete, as that would then need to be licensed.
The club is seeking a licence that will cover it for live music, dancing, films, and for sporting events as well as Bank Holidays.
Alcohol would be served Monday to Thursday, and Sundays, 9am to 12.30am, and 9am to 1.30am on Fridays and Saturdays.
The application explains: “We would like permission to include the occasions of International sports events such as the Olympic Games, World Cups, the Ashes cricket and similar when events would occur in our overnight time zone and we may wish to promote the use of our facilities across 24 hours for members to gather for the shared experience.
“This overnight extension would only apply indoors within our clubhouse.”
Anyone wanting to make a comment on the application can do so between now and March 19 by writing to the Licensing Authority, Fenland District Council, Fenland Hall, County Road, March. PE15 8NQ or email: licensing@fenland.gov.uk
