Steam train stopping at March station

TRAIN lovers were given a pre-Christmas teat at the weekend when a vintage steam engine made a brief stop at March station.

The arrival of the Oliver Cromwell Britannia Class Pacific steam locomotive 70013 attracted quite a crowd, despite making an appearance at 7.40am.

Oliver Cromwell’s arrival was the highlight of an open morning held at the station to raise money for the restoration of some of the station’s rooms and to encourage new members for Friends of March Railway Station.

Other attractions included a model railway exhibition, a tombola and the sale of memorabilia as well as the sale of the mince pies and hot drinks.
