Wisbech council tax payers still have time to comment on a proposal to spend £17,043 on plans to keep the street lights on.
Wisbech Town Council is running a consultation on whether to pay for the 1,449 lights to burn during the night. Cambridgeshire County Council is looking save money by switching them off between midnight and 6am each day.
Options in the town council survey are: turning the lights off; turn the lights off for a trial period of 12 months; pay to keep the lights on; or not bothered. The survey deadline for responses in Friday, September 25. Clerk Terry Jordan said: “It is important that the council knows how residents feel about this matter, particularly as a decision to provide the necessary funding would result in the council needing to increase its element of the Council Tax”.
