Not-for- profit dance event coming to Manor Leisure Centre in Whittlesey as new initiative to get nation dancing spearheaded by Strictly Come Dancing star
Brighten your March by joining in with a new initiative spearheaded by Strictly Come Dancing star, Angela Rippon CBE.
Let’s Dance Day will be coming to The Manor Leisure Centre in Whittlesey on Sunday, March 2 from 1.30pm to 4.30pm, costing just £5 on the door to cover the venue hire.
Launched on the One Show last year, the celebration has the support of the NHS and leading health organisations such as Parkinson’s UK and the Sport and Recreation Alliance with the event designed to inspire the whole nation to dance.
Dancing is known to have a beneficial effect on both physical and mental well-being. Sport England’s Active Life Survey of 2019 shows: “3.66 million adults in England took part in a dance class at least twice over a 28-day period.
“Movement and dance as a physical activity is widely understood to have significant benefits for individual and community wellbeing. However, it is often overlooked as a recommended activity”.
In the survey, dance was found to improve not only overall strength, cardiovascular fitness and stamina but also an individual’s confidence, self-esteem, memory and concentration.
In Peterborough dance schools and community groups are getting involved and there will be events and activities to encourage new participants to join local classes.
One such event will encompass three genres of dance – Ceroc, Silver Swans Ballet and Ballroom.
Silver Swans Ballet instructor, Barbara Wraith, said: “It is great to support Let’s Dance. Three Instructors from Peterborough have come together to offer an afternoon of dance and an introduction to three different local classes.
“This will be a not -for- profit event. You can take part in all three classes if you like, as the classes are fully inclusive.
“It will be lovely to see everyone maybe trying something new and I am really looking forward to being part of this exciting new project.”
Ceroc instructor, Alma Neville, said: “Ceroc is a lively mix of jive, salsa and Latin with the odd bit of tango - without any of the complicated footwork.
“You don’t need a partner as we rotate through the class so you can come on your own or with friends. Come along and see what Ceroc and we are all about”
Angela added: “I am calling on everyone to get involved. Let’s Dance is for everyone, not just for the professionals.
“The more we dance the fitter and happier we will be. It really does tick all the boxes. So come on everyone, Let’s Dance.”
