A free blood pressure and stroke awareness event is taking place at Wisbech’s Horsefair Shopping Centre as part of a national initiative to highlight the link between the two.
Wisbech Rotary Club is hosting a Know Your Blood Pressure event on Saturday, 20th April at the Horsefair’s bus station. Shoppers can stop by between 10am and 3pm for a free blood pressure test; those tested will be given advice on how to lower their blood pressure and information on stroke related health issues.
It is estimated that around 16 million people in the UK have high blood pressure, and a third are unaware of this. The Horsefair’s event, which is being run in conjunction with the Stroke Association and the Ambulance Service, aims to cut those numbers.
“I am pleased that we are able to offer our shoppers this service via Wisbech’s Rotary Club and I hope lots of people will drop by for a quick and confidential check,” said Horsefair manager, Kevin Smith.
Christopher Mackett President of Rotary Club of Wisbech said: “I am delighted that we are able to work with the management of the Horsefair also the local arm of the Stroke Association. Over the years, this event may have prevented thousands of people from having a stroke. It may be quite worrying to discover you could be at risk of a stroke but once it is highlighted, it’s possible to make changes which will reduce that risk. The team will welcome any query, even if it is just for a chat, and help you find out how strokes can be prevented through simple lifestyle choices. Regular exercise, healthy eating and giving up smoking can all help to regulate blood pressure.”
