College of West Anglia students triumph at WorldSkills Competition, bringing home gold and silver medals
Talented Fenland students beat off stiff competition to bring home gold and silver in a national competition.
The College of West Anglia students achieved outstanding success at the prestigious WorldSkills Competition, where its talented students, Charlie Moore, and Kaitlyn Fisher, from the King’s Lynn campus earned a gold medal in Electrical Installation and a silver medal in Health and Social Care respectively.
Additionally, CWA celebrated another success as student competitor, Paige Scotney, from the Wisbech campus advanced to the final stages of the competition highlighting exceptional talent and creativity.
In the Electrical Installation category, Charlie claimed gold, demonstrating exceptional technical expertise, precision, and problem-solving abilities.
Charlie said, “What an experience it has been competing in WorldSkills UK SkillElectric 2024 competition. After 17 hours of hard work under pressure, I managed to complete the build, as well as a fault-finding task.
“I also had the privilege to speak to the Skills Minister before being announced as SkillElectric 2024 UK Gold Medalist. I would like to say a massive thank you to Tim Burgess at the College of West Anglia and Trevor Bramham at Bramham Electrical Ltd, for all the time and effort put into training and supporting me through the competition, as I could not have done it without them.”
Tim Burgess, Electrical Application lecturer said, "Charlie has worked hard over the last two years. Last year, he gained a very respectable third place in the regional competition. He came back this year determined to improve himself.
“He won first prize at the 2024 regionals and then a gold medal in the UK finals. This highlights how, when a dedicated learner puts both knowledge and skills together, they can be the best at what they do”.
In Health and Social Care, Kaitlyn won a well-deserved silver medal. The competition tested participants on their ability to deliver high-quality care under challenging conditions, reflecting the real-world demands of the sector.
Kelly-Anne Neale, Health and Social Care course director said, "We are all so proud of Kaitlyn's silver medal achievement at WorldSkills. She worked incredibly hard to prepare herself for all pressure test scenarios, and her dedication to the competition truly paid off. Kaitlyn also did a fantastic job representing the College of West Anglia and the Health and Social Care department”.
David Pomfret, CWA principal, said, ”What a night at the WorldSkills UK medal ceremony. A gold for Charlie Moore in Electrical Installation and a silver for Kaitlyn Fisher in Health & Social Care.
“Paige Scotney also completed a fantastic personal development journey by competing in the Foundation Skills: Hairdressing competition at The Manchester College. They are so inspirational and have been brilliantly supported by my committed and talented staff.”
