Thirty Germans went home happy after another successful twinning trip to Fenland – and at least one of them is planning to return later in the summer.
The group, from the district of Nettetal, spent three full days in Fenland. Among the highlights was a day out in Newmarket and Bury St Edmunds. They also enjoyed a dinner dance at Childers Sports and Social Club in Whittlesey and a hog roast at Gorefield community hall.
The visit was organised by Fenland District Council and the Fenland Twinning Association.
Vanessa Langer, the guest of Tom and Lesley Kennedy in Manea, said: “We were all very happy to be part of the twinning. It was really great to stay with Tom and Lesley. We had a lot of fun and I felt like I was at home.
“We want to stay in touch and I’m thinking about visiting them again in August. That’s what twinning is for, isn’t it?”
Lesley said: “It was the first time we had been involved and it was an absolute pleasure. It’s a lovely idea – strangers getting together and getting on so well – and the whole atmosphere was really nice.”
Council chairman Coun Ken Mayor, who hosted a reception at Fenland Hall and the dinner-dance, said: “It was a pleasure to welcome our friends from Nettetal. I’m delighted we were able to give them a good time and maintain the close links we have built.
“We look forward to meeting up with them again over in Germany in two years’ time.”
