An old-fashioned sweet shop could be opening in a former education centre under a new proposal.

Amit Lodhia, of Bellina Chocolate House in Cambridge, is looking to transform the former Isle College Learning Shop in Market Place, Wisbech.

A planning application has been submitted to Fenland District Council to complete internal alterations to the listed building along with a change of use.

Mr Lodhia said: “Wisbech is a lovely town with friendly people.

“I love the front of the building and we are hoping that it is going to be an attraction for the town.”

The shop, which could open later this year, is likely to stock old-fashioned sweets along with some of Mr Lodhia’s Belgian chocolate range.

Under the application, the ground floor will be used as a shop with the upper floors being used as a two-bedroom flat.

Former pupils will be getting together for a 70th school reunion.

Rosemary Pope (nee Pedley), Sandra Allen (Rayner) and Lesley Kennedy (Short) are organising a reunion of the Cromwell School at Chatteris.

The event will be held at the Oliver Cromwell Hotel, March, on Friday, April 8.

A buffet will be supplied at £19.95 per head. Closing date is March 28.

For more information about the event call Mrs Kennedy on 01354 680401 or 079471 43864 or Mrs Pope on 07974 995061.
