Team Hickathrift all the way – Fenland care home hosts its own Olympics
Residents and staff at Hickathrift House care home in Marshland st James have been cheering on Team GB throughout the Paris Olympics.
The home has been decked out with flags and residents have been enjoying all the action over the past week.
So much so, that they decided to host their very own Olympics.
Staff and residents took to their marks in the Hickathrift Olympics, all dressed in sports attire. Volleyball, tennis, bowls, seated football, and armchair rugby were all part of the day’s challenges.
The teams battled it out to be crowned sporting champions in each category by general manager, Paula Colman and activities coordinator, Emily Jackson.
After a jam-packed morning of Olympic fun, the afternoon Olympic award ceremony rolled in and the winners were crowned gold, silver and bronze. Where resident, Norah, nearly 103, won the rugby champion award.
Paula said: “We have loved watching the Olympics, lots of our residents are sports fans. It has been fantastic to be able to cheer on all of Team GB and watch our talented sportsmen and women bringing home medals in so many diverse sports, that it was only right we hosted our very own.
“It really was a day of fun, everyone got involved and dressed up for the occasion. It was a real pleasure to cheer on Team Hickathrift.”
Resident, Barbara, commented: “I absolutely love watching the Olympics, it is so wonderful to be able to cheer on our team and now it was even better to be a part of our own team. I loved our game of volleyball; I can’t believe I won the trophy.”
