MACMILLAN Cancer Support is appealing for people in Fenland to help it raise over £10.7m - by taking part this year’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning.

The charity wants this year’s event to be the biggest ever and is hoping over 800 coffee mornings will take place across Cambridgeshire.

Macmillan Cancer Support are teaming up with another local charity, Young Lives, to promote the event and the work of Macmillan.

On Wednesday teenagers from Fenland were in Wisbech’s Horsefair to promote the coffee morning on September 28.

Macmillan’s fundraising manager for Cambridgeshire, Charlotte Darlow said: “Last year we raised a record-breaking from the coffee morning and we really hope we can repeat that again this year with the help of Young Lives.”

Jade Van-Loo, Young Lives’ (National Citizenship Service) programme co-ordinator said: “We are looking forward to helping young people engage with their communities in a variety of ways and this is a fantastic way to kick it off. They will be working with this prominent charity by volunteering their time and effort while learning new skills and educating the community. It is a fantastic experience for everyone involved and we are pleased to have made such positive partnerships across the communities.”

Money raised from the coffee morning is used to fund services such as the Macmillan Head and Neck team at Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge.
