The Samaritans of Peterborough and District Community indoor nearly new sale at Peterborough arena

The Samaritans of Peterborough and District are appealing to everyone to sell their unwanted quality items at an Indoor Nearly New Sale at Peterborough Arena in order to raise essential funds for the charity and to also help other families to alleviate the financial strain Christmas could cause.

IKEA, which employs over 400+ staff in the city, has generously kick-started the sale on Sunday December 9, 10.30am – 1.30pm by donating a range of items for sale.

Sellers can drop-off their items in the morning and then pick-up any unsold items and/or a cheque in the afternoon. For more information about the sale, please visit

Wendy Ferguson, Vice Chair of the Samaritans of Peterborough and District, said: “Last December the charity identified that 60% of people in the UK feared they will not have enough money to live comfortably the next year. This sale, kindly hosted by Peterborough Arena, could help alleviate some of this financial pressure for the whole community.

“Recycling your unwanted quality items, which might be gathering dust, at this sale means you don’t have the hassle of doing it yourself, wrapping, queuing, posting or even having strangers around your house. The charity will charge a commission of 25% per item or a £25 pitch fee for vehicles and local traders wishing to sell. All funds raised will help to keep us listening to your worries 24 hours a day, every day, over the Christmas period and throughout the coming year.”

The website will list items for sale, buyers will be able post a wanted item, to encourage others to sell and also request an early bird entry from 10am for £1.

The community are also encouraged to spread the word by downloading the poster from the

website to promote the sale by placing it on a local noticeboard or uploading it to your staff intranet – there is a Facebook like button to recommend the sale to all your friends.

Keith Dalton, managing director of Peterborough Arena said: “We are delighted to be hosting what we expect to be a very popular event in the run up to Christmas, and of course to be supporting such a worthy local cause.”
