WISBECH is laying claim to another connection to a second big lottery win.
Businesswoman Bev Patel, who runs Ladybirds children’s nursery at Elm Road in the town, is part of the family which owns the Haverhill Premier Store in Suffolk where couple Adrian and Gillian Bayford bought their winning £148 million lottery ticket.
The winning ticket was sold by Bev’s husband Sanjay and Bev said they are delighted for the couple. Since the lottery win, Bev said they too have been in the spotlight as well as the Bayford’s. National media, including reporters from abroad, have been to the shop to interview them and take pictures.
They were also invited to the press conference at Bishop’s Stortford when the couple were interviewed by the assembled media.
Since the publicity Bev said people from all over having been coming to the shop to buy lottery tickets - hoping the luck will rub off.
“We have had people coming from as far as London and Cambridge,” said Bev, who last week, didn’t have time to catch up with staff at the Wisbech nursery because she was so busy in the wake of the lottery euphoria.
In another coincidence, Bev said it was last October when she took over Ladybirds nursery - at the time when Wisbech couple Dave and Angela Dawes had their big £101 EuroMillions win!
