This is what the Fenland Citizen is doing to bring you trusted news in difficult times and how you can support local journalism
For a number of months the Fenland Citizen has been trialling a payment system for some of our exclusive online stories.
We have been blown away by the level of support from Citizen readers and the sheer number of you signing up and paying to read our articles, a sincere thank you for supporting our local business.
However, we also appreciate that at a time like this it is really important for everyone to be able to access our news.
That is why we have launched initiatives such as providing free access to the Citizen via our new app.
Nor is it a secret, though, that the coronavirus pandemic has created huge challenges for publishers such as us.
Many of our traditional revenue streams have understandably dried up, with advertisers deciding now is not the right time to be promoting events or sales.
In order to continue to fund our journalism, we are today making all our online content free to read again for a temporary period.
However, if you would like to support the Citizen we are introducing an option to pay for articles on a voluntary basis.
Doing so will be immensely helpful as we attempt to navigate a path through the next few weeks. If you do not wish — or cannot afford — to pay, then that's fine too, simply click the no thanks button and you can continue to read for free.
