TO celebrate the inclusion of anti-slavery campaigner Thomas Clarkson in the Church of England Lectionary after several years of negotiation with the Church authorities, a special United Service will be held in St Paul’s church, Gorefield on Sunday at 10am.

Thomas Clarkson, Wisbech’s most famous son, was a leading campaigner against the slave trade and slavery in Britain and the British Empire.

He was instrumental in collecting information that was laid before Parliament which resulted in the passing of the Slave Trade Act in 1807.

A presentation of the life and work of Clarkson will be included in the service.

Residents and visitors are invited to join in this commemoration.
