The bodies of three horses were found floating in a Fenland river.

Middle Level Commissioners had to fork out to have two of the bodies removed from the main drain at Marshland St James last week. The other body had sunk.

The drainage board and West Norfolk Council have had dealt with a total of five bodies which have been dumped in the area this year.

John Fenn, from the drainage board, said: “Take responsibility for your animals whether they are alive or dead. A bag of rubbish dumped is bad enough for someone to clear up but a dead animal is horrendous.

“People walking the river banks also find it distressing.

“We have to spend rate payers money in clearing this away.”
