Time bank lets you pool your skills and expertise

TIME banking, a volunteering scheme where people share their time and skills with others in the community, is coming to March.

The scheme enables people to ‘deposit’ their time in the bank by spending an hour or two doing something for another member of the bank.

They can then ‘withdraw’ time credits when they need something done themselves. So one hour of time given gains you one hour of credit.

The credits can be used for all sort of activities including cooking, dog-walking, DIY, filling in forms, surfing the net, gardening - whatever the bank’s members want. Membership is free.

The pilot project is being promoted by Cambridgeshire County Council and the CHS housing group with FDC’s support. It will run in March over the next year.

A display shoing how the scheme works will be in March Library from Tuesday until May 31. The project coordinator, Steve Drew, will be there next Wednesday and on May 9 and May 16 from 10am to noon to answer questions.
