Top honour for two community groups as they receive Freedom of Wisbech
Two community group's have been awarded a town's top honour for their commitment and hard-work.
The Vivien Fire Engine Trust and Wisbech in Bloom were both granted the Freedom of the Town at the monthly meeting of Wisbech Town Council.
Town councillors nominated both groups as a thank-you for all the work they do within the community.
Council leader Samantha Hoy nominated the fire engine trust, having originally hoped to give the honour posthumously to George Dunlop, known as the 'Fire Engine Man' and who was chairman of the trust for many years.
George, who died last year, dedicated many years to the trust and would be regularly seen driving Vivien a Leyland fire engine which served the town from 1932 to 1963, at events such as Wisbech Rose Fair.
Unfortunately the Freedom of the Town cannot be awarded posthumously, but members of the trust proudly received the award at last week's meeting.
Mayor Peter Human nominated Wisbech in Bloom, with the group having had a fantastic year of success in 2018 including winning the best overall entry to take the Anglia in Bloom Trophy as well as a clutch of other awards in the annual competition.
