Chatteris’ free bus will no longer make extra stop at sheltered accommodation complex

A ‘depletion’ in funds has meant a bus service to a sheltered accommodation complex in Chatteris is to be halted.

The FACT free ‘Flyer’ bus, which provides a service for residents taking them around the town, including to Tesco, has been making an extra stop on Fridays at Barber Gardens in Huntingdon Road.

However, the service was discussed at Tuesday night’s meeting of the town council, which funds the service, and it was agreed to no longer stop at Barber Gardens, which provides accommodation for adults with learning disabilities, and autism.

Cllr Linda Ashley said the bus driver had flagged some issues with making the extra stop, which had been added as an extra.

She said as a result of the problems raised, and the fact funds are being depleted, it would be advisable to cease the extra stop in order to ensure the core service can be retained.

Members agreed it was a shame to cut the stop but also agreed the importance of maintaining the main service.

Clerk Jo Melton is to write to the manager of Barber Gardens about the decision and to direct them to the Tiger bus service, which is operated by the Combined Authority.
