Work on historic A17 Cross Keys Bridge delayed after workmen run out of materials

The A17 has been reopened to two-way traffic at the Cross Keys Bridge - because workmen have ran out of materials to complete the resurfacing work on the eastbound side.

Work costing £100,000 to resurface the historic bridge started on Monday and was meant to last four weeks - but after just five days it has ground to a halt after the materials suplier let down Lincolnshire County Councils' highways department.

Three-way traffic lights have made life hell for motorists, with queues going back three miles on Monday, but all that will change - for a while.

The westbound carriageway was completed in the early hours of Thursday but the supplier has not been able to provide enough material to complete the rest of the work.

It is understood that traffic management will start again on Tuesday, October 15 and it is still hoped the work will be completed by the original finish date of Friday, October 25.

Motorists were being advised to divert via the A1101 towards Wisbech, which had also caused congestion.
